Voyageurs NP (Rainy Lake) - 6/4/25

Trip Day 15 - Wednesday

0455-High thin clouds, light breeze, 53F.

0605-Study time complete. Will pray while underway. Verses of the day: "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven." (Mat 16:15-17)

Time to make breakfast and prepare for departure.

Preparing To Depart

Very Treacherous Rocky Shoreline

0650-Departed site for the haul out ramp at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center.

Backing Away

0755-Arrived at the ramp to begin the task of pulling the boat, stowing gear, and equipment. A slow process. On arrival, the ramp had two boats pulling out or putting in, so I waited. I favor a starboard tie due to the slight wind favoring that side.

Arriving At The Dock

I retrieved the truck and backed it in. Unfortunately, I failed to notice the docks were so short and to get deep enough water I ended up catching the starboard side guide post behind the anchor at the bow! I had to remove the anchor to free the lines. This is the second time I have bent this post! I figured I had plenty of depth before reaching the boat but did not.

Leg 10, Day 15 - 4.1 Miles

Ramp Area - Rainy Lake Visitors Center

Jammed Guide Post Behind Anchor

Bringing Dinghy To Shore

Moving The Dinghy To Load Boat

After that bugaboo, loading went okay. Once I pulled the boat up on the ramp the work really began. Mostly routine.

1115-Finished the big stuff.

Pulling The Boat Out

1145-On the road to Bemidji, my home town.
