Voyageurs NP (Rainy Lake) - 5/24/25

Trip Day 4 - Saturday (Layover)

0600-45F/39F. Cold!

A Second Layover Day At Same Boat Site

Got up turned on the heat and crawled back in bed. Hung shirt over heat to warm it up some before I put it on.

0745-Baked coffee cake to have with morning coffee during my study time. Listened to worship music while I worked.

Partly cloudy, calm, 69F/46F. Still cool outside.

0825-Bible study finished. Verse of the day: "The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them." (Psalms 34:7)

0930-Prayer and reading time finished, time to make breakfast.

1050-Fixed power center frame which was loose. Then made breakfast followed by doing the dishes. I will check messages and then go exploring and fishing with the dinghy.

Checked Out R84 Boat Site Behind Me

1225-Just got back from checking out the R84 boat site and trolling with a blue and silver spoon. No bites! Beautiful morning with puffy white clouds. Returned along the north side of Lyman Island on the way back.

Returning To Boat

R84 Boat Site Recon

My Dinghy Track - 1.9 Miles

Traveled 1.9 miles with an average speed of 1.8 mph. Used 7% of the outboard battery. Trolled at a slightly slower speed using 25% power. It took 45 min. to recharge.

As a comparison, yesterday I traveled 2.2 miles with an average speed of 1.8 mph using 11% of battery at a slightly higher speed (2.2 mph) using 50% power and it took about 55 min to recharge.

1545-Went ashore to cut and split more firewood. Reset the trail cam on the big tree where I suspect an owl perches at night.

Firewood Split and Drying In Sun

Returned to the boat to set up the new shower (1st use), showered, and then put everything away. Took about half the time and effort. Should work well. A little tighter fit for getting in and out of the cabin but still it works well.

1715-Cooking dinner now. Grill blew out in the wind and I burned the buns while trying to deal with the grill! It worked out in the end. Had two burger sliders, chips, and a beer. 70F/64F

Did a walk through video of the site.

Rock And Sand

Wind built up out of the SW due to T-storms in the area. With the increase in wind and the cold water temps the air is quite chilly!  Nevertheless, if rain doesn't come I plan to have another fire tonight.

Storms In The Area

Wind Building

2030-Sat in my shore perch and listened to my audio book then started the fire. Much cooler tonight with a NE breeze bringing cold air through the site. Water temp is in the 40's which serves as a great air conditioner but I need heat!

Another Camp Fire - It Will Be Cold Tonight!

Sun Going Down - Cold Comes Rapidly!

Decided to save a little wood for another time since it is so cold out. Headed inside where I will read my e-book until I fall asleep. 64F/56F.
