Voyageurs NP (Rainy Lake) - 6/3/25

Trip Day 14 - Tuesday

0505-Cloudy, calm, a smokey haze that looks like fog. 57F/50F.

0715-Study time finished. Verses for today: "These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules."

Time to make breakfast. 67F/55F. High thin clouds, some sun shining through.

0840-After breakfast I pulled the dinghy up to charge the outboard and sponged out some water from rain last evening. Replaced the leader and lure on my rod. I may take a morning cruise with the dinghy. 68F/58F. Everything in the dinghy is wet! Waiting for it to dry out some in the sun.

Elaborate Campsite - Dock And Stair To Picnic Table & Bear Box

0915-Departed on a dinghy cruise to search for wildlife and to check out campsites along the way.

Fishing was a bust! Tangled my line again. (Later during a repair effort I discovered old line wrapped around the base of the spool which was causing all my problems.)

Still A Smokey Haze

Ran into a couple of fishermen and said hi. They were at the entrance to the little protected bay to my east that I was going to check for wildlife. Turned out it was full of cabins!

1020-Returned to the boat and started stowing away gear for loading tomorrow. Removed the outboard and all camera and phone mounts.

Coming Home!

Soundings In The Area Of My Dinghy Recon

1200-Heated up leftover pizza and enjoyed a cold beer with it.

Trimmed my beard then set up the shower to get cleaned up. The shower basin drain pump  failed but I was able to lift the base and dump the water fairly easily so I will not replace the failed pump. Continued to stow more gear.

1435-Finished putting away the shower after drying. Then stowed the hot water heater. Took a break and had a cold glass of white wine.

Need to marinated chicken in teriyaki sauce for grilled chicken dinner.

1520-Stowed the forward Bimini and considered starting the grill for dinner.

Furled Forward Bimini

1600-Dinner was grilled chicken teriyaki, potatoes, salad, rolls, and white wine. Tasty!

Washed dishes to minimize work tomorrow.

1800-Went ashore with my shore bag and started a fire.

Enjoying The Evening Fire And View

2115-Returned to the boat to get some sleep. Alarm set for 0500.
