Voyageurs NP (Rainy Lake) - 5/22/25

Trip Day 2 - Thursday

0540-46F/41F. Mostly clear, light NE breeze. Got up and fired up the heater and crawled back into bed until the cabin warms up a little.

0550-55F/41F. Sun shining in the cabin so I got up. Made coffee and did my morning study.

0635-My study verse of the day is "...Abraham 'believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.'"  (Gal 3:6 & 9)

0740-Finished my morning study time. Need to check weather, satellite messages, and make breakfast.

0815-Starting prep for my departure. Will be setting up three cameras most days on this trip. I need to pull the lines with their extensions, including my 150' bow line.

0915-Finally pulled away from shore, no issues in calm to light winds. Boat was stabilized by the sand bottom so no power was necessary to hold position. Had to give a little extra power in reverse but the boat backed out fine. I was worried it may be stuck in the sand given the adverse wind last night which pushed the boat around closer to shore.

Dinghy With New Tow Rig

1000-Three or four fishing boats is all I see, no houseboats, no campers. Could have been a camper on R49, not sure.

Hoards Of Non-biting Gnats

1115-Landed on the sandy beach on Blueberry Island (R89) after traveling 13.2 miles. I stayed here before in 2021, a great site and the reason I hustled out here to beat the houseboat traffic. I'm sure it is a favorite site given its park like setting and great beach.

I put all the video and sound batteries on chargers then pulled the dinghy along side the boat for easy access and to install the motor.

1300-Checked firewood ashore. Mostly junk but some potential. We'll see what we can find later on.

Picnic Table & Fire Ring

1315-Washed dishes and cleaned up. Installed the phone and cam mounts on the dinghy.

Dinghy Ready To Go Exploring

1400-Listening to music and enjoying some white wine and candied peanuts.

1430-Decided to take a nap.

1630-Slept off and on, then got up to make shrimp alfredo pasta for dinner. A new dish for this trip. Dinner was the pasta, salad, rolls, and white wine.

Small Connected Peninsula

1800-Went ashore to sit in my chair and just watch and listen to my surroundings. Sent a few satellite messages. Then listened to my audio book "The Breaker" by Nick Petrie. A good series, much like the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child.

Cooling Down Fast - Clouds Forming

2000-Got cool so I returned to the boat and climbed into bed to read my e-book "Overboard" a true blue-water story of disaster and survival. Finally gave in to sleepy eyes and nodded off.
